Entrepreneurial Excellence: Management Award
Mike Folk is the President of The HDF Group. Mike first learned about computing as a college sophomore in 1961. He earned a BS in Math at the University of North Carolina, and a PhD in Computer Science at Syracuse University. He taught computing and math in the US and Africa for 20 years, before moving to Urbana in 1988 to take over the HDF project at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). In 2006 Mike and his colleagues spun off The HDF Group, a non-profit company devoted to evolving HDF and supporting HDF users everywhere.
